Marloes Alblas (27) started at Postillion Hotel Nederland in 2016 as an executive assistant, then became HR manager and has now been General Manager at Postillion Hotel Deventer for exactly one year.

How did you get into hospitality?

“My parents met in hospitality and my father always continued to work in it. So I came into contact with it at an early age. It always appealed to me, every part-time job I had was in hospitality. My sister did an internship at Postillion Hotels and that's how I got in in 2016.”

What makes hospitality beautiful for you?

“Especially dealing with people. More people say that, but that is what it is. Putting a smile on everyone's face. As General Manager, I make sure I add that last ten percent. Paying extra attention to the guests, on top of what my colleagues already do, walking around the building and paying attention to all the details, those are the most important things I often do in a day. Finally, chatting with everyone, knowing what is going on among colleagues and among the guests. I really like that dual role and it suits me perfectly.”

How would colleagues describe you?

“Energetic, motivated, enthusiastic and young, the latter is definitely on the list. There is still plenty to learn and I want to learn that too. I learned from home that tackling and being enterprising is very good for you.”

What is your tip for young, inexperienced colleagues?

“Try to see the whole picture. You often work in one department, but it’s about the whole experience. Show and say what you want, then you can go a long way.”

How do you get the best out of yourself?

“By going at it every day with full energy and making it the best day ever. Together with all colleagues in Postillion Hotel Deventer. I not only find that fun, but also very important. But also by being and staying ambitious. I just finished my HBO study business administration, which I started when I was HR manager.”

What is your ambition for the next five to ten years?

“That Postillion Hotel Deventer will be the best location. In any case, that it will be better than it has ever been. The reviews must be higher than ever, satisfied guests, that's what you do it for. In addition, of course, the turnover also counts, I want to achieve the best turnover that has never been achieved before. I have only been in this chair for a year, but that is a very important part of all the goals that I have set for myself.”
